Although I initially doubted any sort of documentation of my personal journey would be interesting to potential readers, due to numerous requests, I have started this blog. My goal is to provide a comprehensive view of the struggles and accomplishments in the capital city of an African nation yet to be recognized- Hargeisa, Somaliland.
Through this endeavor, I hope to enlighten readers by obtaining the views of our brothers and sisters to whom I will ask the significance of independence to their personal lives and their hopes for the future of our people. Ultimately, at the risk of being controversial, I hope to provide a public forum in which I may share my experiences in this relatively peaceful and democratic city and, in the process, disseminate knowledge to the Somali diaspora youth.
First, I feel the need to clear up a few frequently asked questions. No, I am not going back home to get married to an individual I met on Tinychat, nor am I getting deported. The reasoning behind this expedition is to fulfill my humanitarian goals and ambitions.
Over the course of this trip, I hope to teach young students a variety of topics. In preparation for this task, I have purchased several school supplies with the help of donations from generous family and friends.
Prior to this excursion, I'd like to emphasize the fact that this blog is not going to be used to fulfill or express a political position, which I feel will be ostracizing to my readers. Rather, I would like to allow readers to join me on this trip and hopefully influence other individuals to dedicate themselves to improve the Somali community, regardless of the political borders that separate this one nation, both overseas and in the Motherland.
